0-5V to 4-20mA Linear Voltage to Current Converter Module

This small sized voltage to current converter module can convert 0-5V DC voltage into proportional 4-20mA current signal.

The input and output calibration can be adjusted using onboard potentiometers

Why convert Voltage Signal to Current Signal? 

Voltage signal if transmitted over long distances causes an error in measurement because of the ohmic resistance of the transmission wire. On the other hand the current signal gives much higher accuracy than the voltage signal. 4-20mA current signal is usually a standard int he automation industry as it allows detection of broken media. If the current received at measuring end is 0, the receiver can give an error which may be caused by a broken wire. 

This module uses an onboard LM317 regulator and LM324 op-amp to implement a classic op-amp based voltage to current convertor circuit.
