The ZLAN5212DI is a serial server/IoT gateway designed specifically for industrial environments, featuring optocoupler isolation for its RS485 interface. This design effectively isolates the device from RS485 bus interference, ensuring operational stability, making it ideal for environments where such interference is present. It supports a wide voltage input range (9–24V), utilizes a terminal block for power connection, and includes a chassis grounding wire.

The 5212DI is equipped with two RS485 interfaces and one Ethernet port. It features integrated mounting flanges and DIN-rail clips, supporting three installation methods in a compact, easy-to-install form factor. The device's two serial ports can share a single IP address (distinguished by port numbers) or utilize separate IP addresses. This design enhances flexibility and manageability, allowing users to conserve IP resources through address sharing or achieve independent network communication via distinct IP addresses.

Features

• Three mounting options are available: DIN-rail mounting, backplane mounting (via mounting ears), and desktop mounting (via fixed brackets). It is particularly well-suited for industrial DIN-rail installations; its narrow width saves space and simplifies both installation and removal.
• Industrial-grade power supply: Uses a terminal block connection, making it convenient for industrial environments. It supports a wide input voltage range of 9–24V. The chassis includes a grounding wire to effectively divert interference and surges.
• RS485 serial port with opto-isolation (1500V isolation voltage). Suitable for high-interference environments where standard serial servers might fail to operate reliably. It effectively isolates the ground circuits between serial devices and the serial server.
• The two serial ports can be configured with different baud rates and operate independently without mutual interference.
• Supports IP "virtualization" technology: the two serial ports can be distinguished by port number or IP address. Port-based distinction allows two logical channels to share a single IP address using different ports (suitable for networks with limited IP addresses); IP-based distinction allows a single IP address to function as two (using the same port number), which is suitable for applications requiring fixed port numbers (such as Modbus TCP, which requires port 502).
• Supports TCP Server, TCP Client, UDP, and UDP Multicast modes. When operating as a TCP Client, it simultaneously supports TCP Server functionality. It supports up to 30 concurrent TCP connections in Server mode and up to 7 destination IP addresses in Client mode.
• Supports virtual serial ports and includes ZLVircom, a Windows-based virtual serial port and device management utility.
• Supports transmitting the MAC address upon connection, facilitating cloud-based device management.
• Provides a DLL development kit for PC-side device discovery and configuration.
• Supports configuration via web browser, dynamic IP acquisition via DHCP, and domain name resolution via DNS.
• Supports Modbus gateway functionality, including Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP conversion. It supports "storage-mode" Modbus (automatically collecting and storing device data) as well as standard (non-storage) Modbus gateway modes, and includes ZLMB configurable-table Modbus gateway capabilities.
• Supports multi-master functionality: In a request-response polling scenario, it allows multiple computers to simultaneously access the same serial device via the network port; it also enables multi-master applications involving one-to-multiple serial port conversions.
